Heart failure: Chronic vs. acute

CHF is progressive, as a result of sustained heart suffering in a long period of time. Heart has become large and it’s tissue has remodelled in order to increase its power. At some point it’s just too much, and it can’t be supported by enough blood flow and failure starts.  Heart dilates and doesn’t have the same strengths, with low systolic volumes and poor ejection fractions. Here’s a summary of the events:

Acute heart failure, on the other hand, happens faster, an it’s an emergency. People die in the ER and during admission because of this. The pump failure is so intense that lungs are full with transudative exudates from congested lung capillary vessels, an event known as pulmonary edema. Heart fails, lung fails and the other organs fail it what becomes a “cardio-genic shock”. Here’s a summary of the events:
